A city that rushes, connects, and at the same time isolates. A fashion that becomes a space for expression, identity, and resilience. METROPOLI is a portrait of contemporary life through the eyes of the newly graduated students in Fashion Design and Jewellery Design.

The contemporary metropolis is a living organism: it accelerates time, multiplies connections, and, at the same time, amplifies loneliness. It is from this contradiction that METROPOLI emerges, the fashion show presenting the collections of the graduated students of IED Roma in Fashion Design and Design del Gioiello.

“The city builds its architectures. Human beings build their inner worlds.” Around this concept, garments, accessories, and jewellery become tools for exploring what often remains invisible: the emotional landscape of the contemporary individual.

The eighteen collections presented explore the tension between protection and exposure, belonging and uniqueness. Volumes, transparencies, layering, and material experimentation translate different forms of identity, while textile manipulation, interweaving, degradé effects, technical fabrics, and natural fibres bring artifice and humanity into dialogue. Colour also becomes part of the narrative: white evokes rebirth, black alienation, earth tones a connection to one’s origins, and red energy and affirmation.

Among the projects on the runway is Luca Tomei’s collection, inspired by deconstructivist architecture, which transforms the accessory into a wearable micro-architecture, suspended between art and design, stability and movement. Azzurra Giovinazzi, meanwhile, reinterprets the ideals of the French Revolution through a post-apocalyptic vision, in which liberty, equality, and fraternity become tools for survival and reconstruction. With Golden-Har, Sofia Arci explores disability by moving beyond the notion of otherness and placing vulnerability and the transformation of the body at the centre. In Ultimo porto, Emilio Mazza uses the sea as a metaphor for memory, uncertainty, and change, reflecting on vulnerability as a universal experience and a potential source of strength.

Metropoli thus becomes a collective narrative in which fashion transcends its aesthetic function to become a language, a refuge, and a manifesto. A reflection on the present and on a hyperconnected society that generates new forms of distance, in which the body remains one of the last authentic spaces of expression.

The event is enriched by a collaboration with Brancaccio Danza and with the collective Lost Boys, who curate the musical selection.
