In-person event

IED Kunsthal Bilbao hosts the presentation of GU DA GURE GUDA, the editorial project by Basque artist Balu.

Based in Barcelona for the past two decades, he is a curator and the director of the urban art gallery Canal Gallery (Barcelona). The focus of his artistic practice connects directly with the project he now presents. Balu explores the decontextualization and transmutation of elements from public space—posters, bus shelters, urban furniture, debris—in order to give them new meaning. His approach engages with concepts inherited from the avant-garde, such as the ready-made, and places the word and the image at the center of his relationship with the city.

GU DA GURE GUDA consists of two books that Balu has been developing over the course of three years. The work stands out for its ability to intertwine poetry with public space—phrases transformed into artistic interventions on the very elements that shape the city, thereby enhancing the poetic dimension of the written word. The project has traveled through cities such as Berlin, New York, Barcelona, and Madrid, leaving its mark on their streets and establishing a dialogue between writing and the urban environment.

The book is presented in photobook format, as it is supported by extensive documentation work that allows the reader to immerse themselves in the images and gain a deeper understanding of Balu’s creative universe.

The presentation begins at 7:00 p.m., and at the end, Balu will sign copies.
