20 years of a collective dream through design

Proposals that begin with unique personal universes and come together in a common dream: redesigning the social model to achieve a more inclusive and sustainable way of life.

From its arrival in the City of Counts in 2002 to the present day, IED Barcelona has been consolidating its position as a driving force behind innovation and social well-being through design education. "A collective dream", an exhibition of outstanding projects by its students with which the school commemorates its 20th anniversary, is a faithful reflection of this spirit.

Inaugurated on 1 December, the exhibition presents a great diversity of products, services and strategies representative of the different areas of design, as well as the fields of marketing and communication. Proposals that make a difference arising from the strength of an ever-growing community that learns and evolves thanks to interaction and the exchange of experiences. Ideas that are born with a vocation to transform the environment, from the local to the global level, and explore new territories.

Yet the fifty or so projects on display show much more than the mere end result of these creations. "A collective dream" accompanies the visitor on a journey through the history of the school, revealing the different processes students have gone through to materialise their concerns. Proposals that begin with unique personal universes and come together in a common dream: redesigning the social model  to achieve a more inclusive and sustainable way of life.

A tour around the exhibition

In transportation design, for example, visitors can see various prototypes for climate neutral cars capable of revolutionising the concept of urban mobility and addressing the challenge of decongesting large cities by 2035. Proposals for spaces and products that respond to the needs of people and the planet by combining technology with tradition are also on display.

Among the fashion projects, the designs showcased range from smart dresses to collections that conceptualise the personal universe of each student, also acting as a tool for social reflection.

In the field of visual communication, the exhibition features a large collection of graphic and audiovisual proposals, with languages that draw inspiration from the past to reinterpret the future using new technologies; some making use of stickers or video projections to offer the user a new experience.

Finally, the works most linked to management & design strategies propose solutions that promote everything from innovative services for the City of Barcelona and its business network to circular economy strategies and sustainable consumer products.

“A collective dream” is complemented by a catalogue of the exhibition carried out following sustainability criteria, in collaboration with Otzarreta Think & Make and Guarro Casas. IED Barcelona has also collaborated with the image and photography specialists EGM for the exhibit. The vernissage for the opening of the exhibition was provided courtesy of HelloMamma!

The exhibition is open to the public by appointment upon request by writing to eventos.barcelona@ied.es in order to visit the show with a guide.
