Best Thesis Awards 2024 – IED Barcelona

Each school awarded a prize for the best thesis as well as various special mentions for pathways

On 17 June, the Graduation Ceremony for final-year students of the Bachelor of Arts in DesignBachelor of Arts (Hons) and IED Diploma courses was held at the Mediapro Imagina building.

In a poignant event attended by Lorenzo Di Pietro, Managing Director of Barcelona Activa, as the first Guest Speaker of the event, and with the student voices of Melina Ferber, Sofía Carrión, Camila Kotliarsky and Monique Almeida, representing each of the four schools, the prizes for the Best Thesis were presented. This year, the graduates awarded with this recognition also received an Artist 22 Plus tablet provided by XPPen.

Four Best Thesis Awards and seven special mentions

In Fashion, the winner was Oriol Sigüenza Carbonell with “Vestigi de qui soc” [“A vestige of who I am”], a men’s collection that analyses the process of building personality through introspection. Special mentions were given to Marilyn Mao with “Enlightened Kaleidoscope” (BA Fashion Design) and Melina Ferber with “Class Tourism” (Fashion Styling and Communication).

Among the most outstanding projects from the School of Design, “Skoda Plasmoid” by Transportation Design student Thevidu Thineesha won the award. It proposes a vehicle that uses vibroacoustic energy to encourage the growth of vegetation. Valborg Sunna Sindradóttir with “Elire” (Business Design), Roig Vilaró Palau with “Modular Shoe” (Product Design), and Hana Tamer Abdelaziz with “Ciclo” (Interior Design) received special mentions.

In the case of the School of Visual Arts, the Best Thesis Award was given to Motion Graphics and Video student Lia Ferreiro with “Daka Archive”, an immersive digital archive experience that compiles Taíno culture and history. Laura Valdez received a special mention with “Waisy” (Graphic Design).

Last but not least, in Communication, Priscilla Piraino from the BA (Hons) in Fashion Marketing and Communication was the winner with “Cosa Indossa Ludovika?”. This is a project that explores consumerism and identity in children’s fashion. Alicia Bernades and Patricia Agenjo (IED Diploma in Fashion Marketing and Communication) received a special mention with “Parfois and Friends”.

Alumnus Award

Alex Nikolov, former Business Design student, Co-Founder of Lexa and currently Head of Public Relations at Primavera Sound, received the Alumnus Award in recognition of his career.
