El IED Barcelona brilla en la jornada principal de la BDW con "Hanging by a Threat"

The work can be seen in the pond at the Disseny Hub Barcelona until 28 October.

“Hanging By a Threat” is already shining brightly in the pond at the Disseny Hub Barcelona.

The installation, made by IED Barcelona students Violeta Martín and Lluis La Hoz, in collaboration with Cervezas Alhambra and the Barcelona Centre de Disseny, was unveiled at the Disseny Hub Barcelona on 18 October.

Created to celebrate Barcelona Design Week (BDW), the work brings together the artistic protest possibilities of design. Made from used beer bottles and recycled materials, it invites us to think about how our consumption affects the planet. The project was supervised by IED teacher Marta Ayala.

During the opening ceremony, IED Barcelona Director Andrea Marchesi thanked the organisers of the BDW for giving the students the opportunity to participate with this proposal in such an important week for design. “And doing so with a challenge that allowed them to put into practice the knowledge they had acquired in the subject Upcycling: Waste Is Precious, which specifically addresses the need for responsible consumption, one of the SDGs,” he added.

Marchesi also pointed out that the project’s multidiscipliny nature – Martín is a Fashion Design student and La Hoz is studying Graphic Design – and its mix of disciplines – design with art – were other notable values of the experience. A combination that is able to add talent and convey the message in a more attractive and effective manner.

For her part, Ayala agreed with Marchesi, highlighting the fact that the initiative has allowed young designers to be able to apply the new paradigm of circular design from the outset.

“Hanging By a Threat” can be seen in the pond at the Disseny Hub Barcelona until 28 October.
