They were selected from among the projects of 1,300 students from different universities around the world, developed within the framework of the European ATTRACT project

‘Puffair Jacket’, ‘Tumor DeTech’ and ‘Lumo’: three projects with the IED Barcelona hallmark that address cancer and climate change will form part of the permanent exhibition at Ideasquare, the innovation space at CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, located in Geneva, Switzerland. They were selected from among prototypes developed by 1,300 students from universities around the world as part of the European ATTRACT project.

'Puffair Jacket' is a smart jacket capable of storing water, designed with Megamorph technology, in a bid to combat drought. It was developed in 2023 by a team of students from the Master in Design for Sustainable Fashion Technology, in collaboration with the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IAAC) Fab Lab Barcelona as part of the second edition of Future Technologies for Sustainable Fashion.

'Tumor DeTech', developed in 2023 by students from the Master in Interaction Design in collaboration with students from Esade and the UPC, is a project that emerged within the framework of the Challenge Based Innovation for Artificial Intelligence (CBI4AI) programme. Its objective is to establish a global platform for data collection and analysis, fostering the development of an AI algorithm for tumor growth that will boost cancer research and treatment outcomes.

Last but not least is ‘Lumo’ (2021), a portable and cost-effective cancer monitoring device that improves access to diagnostics in small and regional hospitals. It is a solution conceived by students from the Master in Design Management, Esade, and the UPC as part of the CBI programme.

The projects were temporarily exhibited during the final conference of the ATTRACT project, the event that closed the second edition of this transformative programme that fosters innovation in advanced technologies.

Held on 2 and 3 July in Sparks, Brussels, the event also saw the participation of Lucienne de Waal, a Product Design alumnus from IED Barcelona, who took part in the TeSI - Technology for Social Innovation programme.

*These projects have received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement no. 101004462.
