A week full of events: workshops where imagination, art, and interculturality took center stage, along with guided tours exploring street art, film forums, and activities with current students.

To inaugurate the new Academic Year, IED Milano organized a week of interactive workshops and activities for its Bachelor’s Degree students, designed to welcome first-year students into the spirit of the Istituto Europeo di Design. The event took place during the week of October 7, creating a unique opportunity for new students to engage with peers from different courses and to pick up helpful insights to start the year.

The program featured not only workshops but also screenings of short films produced by the OffiCine Hub, a project that allowed a select group of students to collaborate with top-notch cinema professionals and create high-quality film productions.

Milan is steeped in art, and what better way to discover it than through a guided tour exploring the hidden gems of Street Art across neighborhoods like Isola and the Navigli? “Another Scratch in the Wall” was a tour that offered students an introduction to the history of this influential art movement.

One standout workshop, The Voice of the Body, was led by Luca Vullo, a teacher and actor known for his dynamic spirit and international work as an ambassador of Italian gestures. Through his involvement in numerous conferences, including TEDx Varese, Luca conveyed the importance of intercultural understanding, emotional intelligence, and empathy. His session, enriched with anecdotes, aimed to deepen students’ appreciation of the rich non-verbal language embedded in Italian culture.

Another key event, Chance Does Not Exist, was a lecture by the Art Director Giovanni Ottonello, who shared insights on how to be competitive and credible in today’s art world, emphasizing the importance of interdisciplinary approaches and encouraging students to experiment with sustainable fashion.

Creative challenges played a central role in workshops like Mysterious Jars by Bob Liuzzo, Graphic and Brand Designer and coordinator of the Bachelor’s in Graphic Design at IED Milan, and Design Thinking: Unleash Your Creativity led by Creative Director Valentina Coradeghini.

Finally, the program included two peer activities for current students: Meet IED Buddies and Tour with Buddies. These included icebreaker games and a tour to introduce new students to the areas surrounding IED Milan’s campuses, fostering community and familiarity from day one.
