The day featured a range of activities. One of the main events was to collect testimonials from staff members and teachers in the same Book of Honour that was first used in the school’s opening ceremony.

The new academic year at IED Barcelona has got off to a very special start, with the date of 19 September marking 20 years since we opened our first centre in the city.

Two decades of history of an institution that gradually made its mark on the education landscape to become a national and international reference in design education.

To celebrate this trajectory, the day featured a range of activities. One of the main events was to collect testimonials and words of congratulations from staff members and teachers in the same Book of Honour that was first used in the school’s opening ceremony.

In the morning, and coinciding with the Welcome Event for the 2022-2023 Academic Year, the Director of IED Barcelona, Andrea Marchesi, and the Academic Director of the IED Group as well as President of the Francesco Morelli Foundation, Riccardo Balbo, addressed the new students.

Marchesi welcomed them, emphasising that during their next few years at the school they would not receive a “classic education”; rather they will “experience a process of transformation and discovery”, which they must approach with a critical spirit, open-mindedness and curiosity.

Balbo reminded them that “designers move amid uncertainty, so they must be very careful, but at the same time very brave”, stressing their sense of responsibility, but without forgetting that “design is fun, too”.

During the event, which also counted on the participation of the General Director of IED Spain, Agustí Valls i Prats, a video commemorating the past, reflecting the present and projecting the future of the school was exhibited.
